You can find Marian Yu dolls on the Internet in a huge variety of prices, values and designs. She was a well-known and respected doll designer, now retired from doll making per her daughter. She is now pursuing other artistic interests in Thailand.
Unlike most designers, her styles are not easily recognizable. Many of her dolls were mass produced; but, this one was limited to 20,000.
This doll is hand-signed by Ms Yu and bears the MYD (Marian Yu Designs) logo on her neck and dress. Her Certificate of Authenticity is also hand signed and has a copyright date of 1988. The overcast stitching on her dress and the snap fasteners confirm this doll's age.
This doll is 16" tall and somewhat willowy in stature. Her face is beautifully colored bisque porcelain, handpainted. She has dark, curly hair, which is somewhat dry due to her age. It extends almost to her
waist. Her arms are porcelain to just below the elbows and have a wire armature for posing. Her legs are
porcelain to the knees. Her body is filled cloth and bends at the waist and knees so she can sit... most
unusual for a porcelain doll.
She wears an Oriental head band with silk roses and flowing ribbons (traditional wedding garb). Her
dress is printed corduroy with wide bands of scalloped lace. She has a light crinolin constructed into her
dress underneath. She is wearing patterned knee-length socks and MaryJane shoes fastened at the
